Test
  • Read the cooling timer on five running jobs, and measure the thickest wall of each part.
  • Work out the time each wall needs with the standard cooling formula, using the plastic's own figures from its data sheet.
  • Then set the two times side by side for each job.
CostAbout $52, all of it time: about an hour of a process technician, at $52 per hour. Nothing is bought, and no press stops.
DurationAbout an hour, while the presses run
Confirmed ifAt least one timer runs a quarter or more past the time its wall needs. A thin part with as long a timer as a thicker part of the same plastic shows it too.
Ruled out if
  • No timer runs past the time its wall needs.
  • The timers were then already trimmed, and there is nothing here to save.
  • Where a timer sits in between, a trial on one job decides.

Illustrative sample. The plant, the walk and the footage are synthetic.
