Cut changeover time with SMED
This week
Timing each job switch showed much of it going to fetching while the press waited. About 25 minutes of each went to bringing over tools, hoses and the crane.
The recordings show every task, so the time lost to fetching could be measured instead of guessed.
We timed each task in the week's job switch recordings. On presses 7 and 12, switches still averaged 71 minutes, and much of each went to fetching tools while the press sat stopped.
No job switch is faster yet, but timing each one found fetching that can be done before the press stops.
Since last week: Last week the recordings were pulled, and now every switch on them is timed task by task.
Have tools, hoses and the crane ready before the press stops, and time every switch.
