Cut changeover time with SMED
This week
Work began on the presses that switch jobs most often, where faster switches free the most time. Presses 7 and 12 switch about twice as often as a typical press.
The ERP job log already showed which presses lose the most time to job switches, so work could start right away.
We read the ERP job log for every press to see where job switches cost the most time. Presses 7 and 12 switch jobs most often and lose the most time doing it, so work began there.
No job switch is faster yet, and work has started on the presses that switch jobs most.
Pull the camera recordings of job switches on those presses to see where the time goes.

- Week 4The cameras already record every job switch on the presses where work began, and the recordings were pulled.
- Week 5Timing each job switch showed much of it going to fetching while the press waited.
- Week 6Keeping the next job's tools on a cart beside the press made job switches much faster.
- Week 7The second press now has its tool cart, but most of its job switches had one setup person and stayed slow.
- Week 8With two setup people on every job switch, the presses where work began had their fastest week yet.
