Cut changeover time with SMED
This week
With two setup people on every job switch, the presses where work began had their fastest week yet. Their switches averaged 42 minutes.
With a second setup person, the molds came out and went in from both sides at once instead of in turn.
We watched this week's job switches on camera and matched them to the ERP job log. With two setup people each time, presses 7 and 12 now switch jobs about 30 minutes faster.
Faster job switches work on the first presses, and most of the plant has not started yet.
Since last week: Last week's issue is fixed: the slow press had a second setup person on every switch and is now almost as fast as the other.
Keep both setup people on every switch, and heat the next mold before the press stops.
